Six months into the war on Iran, what counts as victory for Trump?

At the start of the war on Iran, the Trump administration promised a powerful, short campaign. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said, “This is not Iraq. This is not endless.” Six months later, the conflict continues. The administration says American strikes achieved their original goals, destroying Iran’s missile threat and navy, damaging its nuclear infrastructure, and severing proxy support, with Trump declaring Iran “decimated” within weeks.

But as Al Jazeera’s Manny Rapalo reports from the White House, military superiority hasn’t ended the war, leaving officials facing a harder question: what now counts as victory? Trump insists the military campaign was actually faster than the six weeks promised, and argues securing a political agreement with Tehran is separate from military success. Restoring safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz remains unresolved.
