India’s Cockroach Movement protests: CJP founder arrested ahead of planned demonstrations
Police in India have arrested the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party ahead of a planned protest in New Delhi.
Authorities deployed thousands of security personnel across the capital to prevent the gathering.
The youth-led movement has staged several demonstrations this month, demanding the resignation of India’s election chief over revisions to the voter registry.
The arrest comes amid growing protests over the electoral process and changes to voter registration records.
Al Jazeera’s Perry Wilton reports.
