Andy Burnham has shaken up the polls – but has he changed British politics?

There’s a new PM in town – and he’s a very different kind of opponent for Britain’s other parties. Andy Burnham has given Labour something it badly needed.. a fighting chance, and he’s forcing other parties to change their tactics.

Reform spent two years campaigning to get Starmer out – now they’ve been knocked off the top of the polls. The Conservatives have a new opponent across the dispatch box. The Greens have a Labour leader trying to occupy some of their political territory.

But Burnham’s biggest challenge could be closer to home – the Labour coalition that got him into Downing Street is broad – and fragile. Can Burnham keep his own party together once the compromises of government begin?
