EU enforces AI transparency rules as regulators race to curb tech risks
The European Union has introduced some of the world’s strictest artificial intelligence laws, banning practices like social scoring and live facial recognition in public spaces, with firms facing billion-dollar fines for breaches. Regulators say the bloc offers the safest environment for AI use globally, though researchers warn enforcement is struggling to keep pace with rapidly evolving technology, and some fear US pressure could weaken oversight. Concerns also persist that strict rules may deter innovation, with few major AI firms based in Europe.
Al Jazeera’s Rosie Birchard reports from Brussels.
