Russian missile strikes hit Kyiv as Ukraine faces sustained attacks

A sustained Russian missile attack has killed civilians and damaged energy and other infrastructure in and around Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, as Moscow’s attacks continue for more than a week. Ukraine’s Air Force says 10 ballistic missiles were launched towards Kyiv, triggering a red alert as residents were warned of the particularly difficult-to-intercept weapons. At least 18 sites were damaged, with fires reported at warehouses, a supermarket, residential areas and energy facilities, including combined heat and power plants, thermal power plants and electrical substations. Two people were killed and five injured in Kyiv, while a 14-year-old boy was killed and three others were injured outside the capital, according to the report. Emergency crews and repair teams were working at damaged sites following the overnight strikes.

Al Jazeera’s Jonah Hull reports from Kyiv.
